Robert Finecey

An old family friend was in need of a small website to promote his latest musical endeavor. The site would need to clearly convey the client's biography and mission statement, as well as offer an affordable e-commerce solution for the purchase of merchandise. Rob was seeking the look of an older, manuscript-type design and was also looking to somehow incorporate a forthcoming drawing to be supplied by another artist.

Tasks performed include:

  • Website design
  • HTML coding, including PayPal integration
  • Establish and launch public Facebook account for client

While I offered an alternate idea for the artistic direction of this project (alternate comps included at left), the client's decision was to stay with his original plan. I had seen a lot of examples of this type of design throughout the internet, often tagged in the "retro" category of website compilations, and I was interested in trying my hand at it. In retrospect, I learned that this type of design takes a great deal of patience and it's the small details that make the good examples of this genre come to life. I was also reminded of the important lesson that a successful project is one that satisfies the goals of the client…not the designer.

As I briefly mentioned in my bio, music has played a rather large role in my life. While it doesn’t quite hold the same rank in my day-to-day routine as it used to, music is still an alternate creative outlet for me. Recently, myself and the other musicians that I frequently write music with decided that we would put together a website that would give a history of a musical project that started over 15 years ago and still hasn’t stopped.
